To prepare for the Boca Raton Museum of Art’s upcoming exhibition Glasstress, Kathleen Goncharov, the museum’s senior curator only had a narrow window of opportunity over the past couple of years to visit the Berengo Studio in Venice, which has helped organise the exhibition. First the Italian lagoon suffered from record-breaking floods, swiftly followed by the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, but during an opportune moment in 2019 she made it to the island of Murano to choose handblown glass sculptures designed by 34 contemporary artists, including Ai Weiwei, Fred Wilson, Vik Muniz, Erwin Wurm, Fionna Banner, Prune Nourry, Ugo Rondinone, and Joyce J. Scott.

In a city where a glorious past has generated a majestic art full of history, the function of contemporary art becomes fundamental to move forward, even through the unusual, towards new artistic languages and new knowledge.
This is the goal of Venice Galleries View, which connects nine contemporary art galleries in Venice and promotes the new and the unexpected, and exhibits an art that suggests future tendencies.
Venice Galleries View brings together many and various elements: exhibition spaces in highly suggestive environments (both in the heart of Venice and in the mainland), gallery owners always looking for the spark of genius and ready to offer it to anyone willing to hear its voice, editors of art books, and promoters of new debates and research.

Find out moreLuna et laguna, dipinti di Andrew Huston in squero a Venezia

Artissima has finally reopened its doors to the public of contemporary art for its 28th edition, with 155 galleries from 37 countries and under the direction of Ilaria Bonacossa.
Following a strongly curatorial approach, a trait that has distinguished Artissima for several years now, this year too the fair proposes a theme: Controtempo, a term borrowed from the musical field, which wants to emphasize the ability of the arts to “strike on weak accents by transforming them into points of strength “.
The presentation by Beatrice Burati Anderson is very interesting, with an elegant stand hosting two windsocks by Margherita Morgantin created in collaboration with Rubelli, a great example of collaboration between art and business.

Beatrice Burati Anderson’s stand is minimal: there are two windsocks, one of which in damask, a small projector and some aluminum boxes that contain A4 sheets with some birth charts drawn. These are the works of Margherita Morgantin, a conceptual artist who works on the border between science, philosophy and spirituality and who has mixed all of these aspects in a year and a half research – also contained in the book published by Nottetempo “Sotto la Montagna Sopra la Montagna” . Morgantin spent a lot of time in the nuclear physics laboratories below the Gran Sasso, while at the top she realized a wind speed measurement performance. In her intent of restoring the content, under the mountain the scientific research at a certain point is unlocked and reveals the value of the unknown, while above is the more spiritual and magical dimension in which the windsocks make visible something that is not visible, recording the energy of the air.

What’s better than a walk to discover the coolest contemporary art galleries in Venice? The Venice Galleries View project is born.
Continuing the discovery of marvelous reconverted spaces, Beatrice Burati Anderson Art Space & Gallery, located in the fourteenth-century Corte Petriana in an ancient warehouse with two water gates on the Rio de la Madoneta, a few meters from the Grand Canal, spectacularly makes different forms of art dialogue with the rich history of the building.

In the exceptional location, the congress center of the “Cloud” by Massimilano Fuksas, at EUR, the new contemporary art fair in Rome – under the general direction of Alessandro Nicosia and Adriana Polveroni, artistic director – will end in the next few hours. But how did this first edition go? Courage must certainly be rewarded: it wasn’t easy to think of a new event in such uncertain times, and after an autumn full of fairs, especially as regards the Italian “colleagues”. The satisfaction of some gallerists, however, is clearly perceptible. […] Beatrice Burati Anderson also declares herself satisfied with how business went at the Nuvola, as well as for the special mention of the “The Best” award, offered by the Lazio region, for the gallerist who, from Venice, – since last May – also chose to open a venue in the capital.

Transparent or impenetrable, the waters of the sea. They welcome the gaze, reassure it or make it restless. However, they suggest infinite sensations that stimulate artistic visions such as those collected in the exhibition curated by Valentina Rippa and Beatrice Burati Anderson for the new artistic space in Venice (Calle de la Madonna, 1976). Winter seas is the title of a double exhibition (until February 20) which features the works of the Neapolitan Ilaria Abbiento and Mauro Pipani, an artist who works between Cesena and Verona.

“VIP = Violation of the Pauli exclusion principle UNDER THE MOUNTAIN, ABOVE THE MOUNTAIN” is a project by Margherita Morgantin carried out between 2020 and 2021 in the Abruzzo National Park and in the Gran Sasso underground laboratories of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics. In the laboratory, located 1.3 km below the mountain, away from external radiation, scientists study dark matter, which would make up almost 90% of the mass of the universe and which is visible only indirectly, thanks to its gravitational effects. Margherita Morgantin tried to access this singular energy signal and with Sotto la Montagna, sopra la Montagna presents a long sheet of watermarked paper that collects an abstract flow of signs and paths, rolled up and then carried out on a horizontal display that integrates light and sound to the drawing. This superimposition of codes and transcriptions attempts to establish a dialogue between art and science to provide a testimony of cosmic silence and to tune in to a vision of the dark that gives body to the invisible.

At the Beatrice Burati Anderson Art Space – an exhibition curated by Adriana Polveroni – until September 24 – SI VIS PACEM / If you want peace – responds to the drama of the present times, comparing in an unprecedented way the works of Ciriaco Campus – Bitti – Nuoro – 1951 and Italo Zuffi – Imola – 1969. Borrowing the title from the famous Latin phrase – Si vis pacem para bellum – If you want peace, prepare for war, SI VIS PACEM asks, in the deliberate suspension of the sentence, an implicit question, which will remain open, to constantly solicit conscience: If you want Peace – assuming you really want peace – what needs to be done.

It is a world made of small things, that of Judi Harvest. Like perfect and harmonious elements of a peaceful ecosystem, the objects that populate the artist’s canvases and glass creations compose a story made up of simple but essential protagonists. Such is the case of bees, the prime actors of the exhibition project inaugurated on the occasion of the seventh edition of The Venice Glass Week at the Beatrice Burati Anderson Gallery.
